This classic cocktail is one of the oldest drinks you will find in English print. The exact origins are much fodder for debate. Perhaps it was a signature drink of the old Knickerbocker Boat Club in New York. Regardless of its origins, there is no denying that it is a tasty cocktail in any era.

At times there is nothing like an “Old School” cocktail made without embellishment. The Brandy Alexander evokes visions and the mood of cocktail parties long disbanded but one I would love to attend from time to time. One of the greatest things about our current cocktail revival is the rediscovery of cocktails long considered passé. The Brandy Alexander is a theme party just waiting to happen.

This iconic Irish Whiskey was first introduced in the 1930s as “Old Bushmills Special Old Liqueur Whiskey,” a special blend of old malt whiskey matured in Sherry casks. By the 1960s, the distillery had a shortage of old stocks and the label was dropped. Human nature being what it is, the “Black Label” Bushmills’ reputation grew in its absence, moving Bushmills to reintroduce this special blend. Re-branded as “Black Bush,” this upscale whisky was and is a blend of roughly 75% malt whiskey with a respectable portion of Sherry casks.

Although some people might celebrate it every day, National Vodka Day is actually today. Who knew? I didn’t until I received a press release touting the fabulousness of this versatile, chameleon spirit. The Michelada is a wildly popular drink in Latin America. If you have ever enjoyed a cool beverage in a local bar in Mexico (a bar filled with tourists sipping frozen cocktails while wearing socks with sandals doesn’t count), you have likely seen this drink up close.
It is named for the bartender that is said to have invented the drink, Michel Ésper of the Club Deportivo Potosino in San Luis Potosi. You will notice that our classic recipe, just like the original, does not include tomato juice.
If it sounds disgusting it’s just because you’ve never tried it. Trust me, if you enjoy a good Bloody Mary from time to time (and our Bloody Mary recipe is smashing), you will enjoy a fresh Michelada.
Being in a generous mood, we are offering two variations of this thirst quenching cocktail. The classic version is presented here and our Turbo version can be found by following this link. Read more »

Van Gogh’s Espresso Vodka is made from fresh cracked Columbian beans with a subtle compliment of cocoa. The result is wonderfully pure creating aromatics that are rarely found in coffee based spirits. If you close your eyes you can actually believe that you are nosing a chilled espresso. The palate has just enough coffee bitterness to add balance and style. We rarely get excited about flavored vodka (let’s face it, most are just awful) but the efforts from Van Gogh never disappoint.
