Tampa Bay restaurant gossip and deals

  • Cork Tampa on South Howard will be switching its specialty from wine to beer. There will still be wines available but craft beer will be their main gig. They’ve also done a snazzy remodel of the place. Go check it out, especially the pimped-out loft area.
  • Drinks, a new wine and beer destination in the bottom of Grand Central  in the Channelside District, is coming along nicely. Stumble from the gym into the bar… could make for great evenings. Due to open by March.
  • Seasons 52, a Darden wine bar and restaurant concept new to the Bay area but very popular elsewhere, will be opening in the Westshore Mall outpost sometime in March. [note: Reader told me they open February 15, not in March. Thanks!]
  • Speaking of Westshore, The Palm has launched a screaming good happy hour deal. $3.50 for their “Prime Bites” menu, 5-7 p.m. and after 9 p.m. ’til close. More details.
  • The Stimulus Special at Viscaya Restaurant in Carrollwood features a 3-course dinner for two, including a bottle of wine or pitcher of sangria for only $70.
  • According to Laura Reiley at the St. Pete Times, Cassis American Brasserie will be opening up in the Ovation building in downtown St. Pete. Due to open in March, much like everyone else in this post. Wonder who will run on time? More details.

thanks for the info on the Bern’s Winefest. I scored some tix for the Grand Tasting – a fantabulous event without a doubt. This is one time you need to come early and stay late!

PS: How about an article about restaurants that want to servre you a $12. glass of hot red wine(you cannot be serious) that is room temperature instead of a much more flavorful temperature of 57 degrees!
PSS: How about an article about restaurants that have decent wine prices! Michael’s on East in Saraota use to charge $5. over retail.
PSS: How about an article about corkage fees. Why are people so shy about bringing in a special bottle to their favorite eating establishment?
