Best Kirkland wines at Costco

best kirkland winesIf you’re not a regular shopper of Costco, Kirkland is their private label and Kirkland wines, sourced from various wineries around the world, are kicking ass in the value department. Unfortunately, Costco doesn’t reveal which wineries they work with, so you have to try them to find out if they’re drinkable. In my experience, they are pretty consistently tasty. This blog will expand over time, identifying the best Kirkland wines that I try, but here are the first three that you can enjoy with abandon. Tried any that you loved? Please let me know in the comments.

Best Kirkland Wines at Costco

Kirkland Ti Point 2016 Sauvignon Blanc Marlborough New Zealand: I tasted the 2016 but I bet this wine will stay consistent over vintages. Acidity alllll day long like most cool climate Sauv Blancs, and the Marlborough region is especially good at keeping acid levels fresh and lively. Peach, stone fruit, tropical notes, and dash of grass are present in the sip and on the lingering finish. Around $15. Good price to value ratio. Pair with Mahi Mahi in Lemon Caper Sauce

Kirkland 2016 Pinot Noir Russian River Valley Sonoma County: Not sure which winery in this land of expensive dirt can afford to make and sell Pinot for $13, but make it well they have. Hell, I’d even pay $25 for this bottle of wine at the winery. The nose bursts with cherry, raspberries and dusty hints of green tobacco. The mouth enjoys ripe red cherry, laced with red bramble fruit, easy, manageable tannins, soft leather and black tea on the finish. It’s well balanced with acidity. I’d only ask for a little more mid-palate action, but this wine is righteous for the money. Pair with Paleo Chicken Spinach Alfredo

Kirkland 2015 Malbec Mendoza Argentina: This Malbec isn’t going to knock your socks off, but for $7, what will? A solid effort with blackberry, black cherry, dusty oak and nice acid. The finish is a bit weak and it needs to breathe for a bit in the glass to really sing its song; however it’s simple, straightforward and varietally correct daily sipper. Pair with pizza or Easy Meatloaf
