Cocktail of the week: Moscow Mule

This post comes to us from Sean Ludford, creator of the website BevX.com. Get more of his fabulous stuff there. This sounds like a perfect signature party drink to please a cocktail snobby audience.

This classic cocktail is reported to have been invented in the Cock ‘n’ Bull pub in Hollywood in the mid 1940’s. It was originally made with Smirnoff Vodka but it can clearly be made with any quality vodka. It’s dead simple but surprisingly tasty when made with great ingredients. Don’t skimp and you will be rewarded.

Ingredients

2 oz. vodka
4 oz. (or more) ginger beer (this has a stronger flavor but in a pinch, substitute ginger ale)
Half a lime – cut in two wedges

Method

In a highball glass filled half with ice, squeeze the lime wedges into the glass and then drop in the juiced rinds. Top with godka and then the Ginger beer. Stir gently and then sip slowly.

  1. That’s not a copper mug in the photo! 😉
FYI to anyone who wants to try one from the other side of a bar, Mise en Place makes and serves them properly.
