Four ways to escape putting on pounds at parties

Buffet madnessIf you’re regimenting a strict diet, parties can suck when faced with a table of food you want to scarf. However, it doesn’t have to be a huge challenge to maintain food balance. Here are a few tips:

1) Don’t limit yourself completely. Get a small plate, put one or two of the irresistible food on your plate and walk away. Take a bite and see if it’s worth it. If not, allow yourself to chuck the rest and not feel guilty. If it’s the bomb, savor each bite completely and utterly. Turn your back on the table. Don’t sit close to it either. Out of sight, out of mind.

2) Don’t set too many rules. Not drinking? Carb-free? Gluten free? Give yourself license to only adhere to one of these for the evening. That way, you don’t feel completely down-hearted. And you’ll likely stick to something when it’s only one thing.

3) Drink a glass of water and a small snack before leaving the house. You won’t be starved and thus, tempted.

4) Get over it. If you find yourself gorging and then feeling super crappy about it the next day, go out and exercise. It’s not too late the next morning to burn off the sins of the night before.
