This family-owned winery is located in Napa Valley, but thankfully they look outside of its great-for-cabernet-and-merlot terroir to the cooler climate of Monterey County for its pinot noirs. (Read more about Monterey County wines here.)
This is a second label for Delicato Family Vineyards (yes, the brand in the big bottle). Brothers Chris and Jay Indelicato named the label “Irony” because both siblings worked for a time outside the family business, swearing off the farm, but returned to it. In fact, Chris is CEO of DFV.
Delicato owns San Bernabe Vineyard in Monterey, which is probably where they sourced these grapes. The result is a bright, light-bodied pinot with tart acidity, stewed strawberries, raspberries, toasted bread, and a slight mushroom-y flavor. Really quality juice for a $16 price tag. Sw=1. 4 stars.
