It’s probably no secret I adore the wines of Domaine Carneros. I even poured a different vintage of this bubbly at my wedding. As the American outpost of the famed French Champagne house Taittinger, vintage after vintage, it’s the best way to drink Champagne-ish on a craft beer budget. Great value for the money. The 2006 is, of course, no exception. A blend of 58 percent Pinot Noir, 41 percent Chardonnay and 1 percent Pinot Blanc, it was aged three years before they released it.
The tiny bubbles introduce a mouthful of rich, stewed apples tempered with tart citrus. It sports a dry, floral and creamy finish. Medium-bodied, well balanced and refreshing. Quite spectacular.
