This brand has gotten HUGELY popular in the past few years, mainly by releasing sweeter, less complex wines for the masses. Unabashed in their promotion and their choice of tropical-tasting, fragrant grapes, the winemakers at Folie à Deux (the producer) have struck a chord — with seemingly everyone from critics to consumers in this Juicy Fruit Gum-like white wine.
A blend of three grapes, this full-bodied menage à trois (get it — a blend of three grapes?) bears the naked, upfront fruitiness of musky Muscat (aka Moscato in Italy), the richness and structure of Chardonnay and a dash of earthiness from Chenin Blanc. Best quaffed rather than analyzed since it lacks much acidity, it’s opulent and decidedly not a wine geek wine. It has tropical flavors like pineapple, coconut and honeysuckle with a dash of citrus. It’s pretty much as close to a frozen, beach liquor drink you could find in a wine bottle. An absolutely perfect wine for those just entering the wine realms.
