Wine review: Milbrandt 2007 Traditions Merlot Columbia Valley

milbrandt merlot 07Gawd… this is yet another fabulous example of delicious Washington State Merlot. Butch and Jerry Milbrandt came from a long line of families who “worked the land” and they planted grapevines in 1997. But it wasn’t until 2007 that they launched a brand with their name on it. And what beautiful Merlot they made in their first attempt. This vintage sports rich, ripe cherries, plum, blueberries and milk chocolate. Plush, easy-to-drink tannins and the acidity is well integrated. So much wine for the money, it’s a rare bargain. Blended with Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec and Petite Sirah.

  1. Love that Milbrandt juice Is there any 07 left?? Thanks and do you think the 08 and 09 are about equal in taste Thanks Kevin

  2. Hi Kevin – doubtful there’s any of the 07 left but the winery might part with some if they still have some. I would suggest giving them a call.
Subsequent vintage were not as stellar as the 2007 but at the $14 price point, you can’t ask for too much.

    Cheers!
    Taylor
